Stam signs for the Glovers

YEOVIL Town manager Terry Skiverton has made former Oldham Athletic defender Stefan Stam his second summer signing.

The Dutchman was not offered a new contract with the Latics last month after six seasons with the Boundary Park club.

At home in the centre of defence, Stam can also play on the left and aged 29 is expected to bring vital experience to the back line.

Stam is a product of the AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven youth systems. He played professionally for FC Eindhoven before moving to Oldham following a successful trial in the summer of 2003.

He went on to make almost 100 appearances for the Latics before agreeing the move to Huish Park.

Stam said: "Terry invited me down to Yeovil a few weeks ago and I was impressed with what I see and his plans for the club."

With both Skiverton and assistant Nathan Jones wanting to end their playing careers this summer, the pair have identified the defence as a key area for improvement.

Stam follows Tottenham Hotspur right-back Danny Hutchins' addition to the squad, after the 19 year old agreed to sign a two-year contract earlier this month.

Veteran attacker Paul Warne has left Yeovil after two seasons, with the club and player failing to agree a new deal.
