Pilot driving away in Audi as reward

Monday, November 02, 2009, 06:00

AIRMEN at RNAS Yeovilton have an incentive to do well on a Lynx helicopter training course, with an Audi TT for the weekend awaiting the top performer.

Lt Craig Holliehead won the weekend wheels, provided by Loders. He received the keys from Loders' managing director Brian Keene at 702 Naval Air Squadron's presentation of wings parade.

Lynx Course 1/08 has trained pilots and observers at RNAS Yeovilton and, having received their wings, they will now join the fully operational front line 815 Squadron.

The pilots and observers undertake intensive training to learn how to handle Lynx helicopters so they can fly in emergency situations, low level over sea, make deck landings on a ship and fly using night vision goggles.

Lt-Cdr Al Haigh, 702 Squadron's senior pilot, said: 'These men have worked incredibly hard to achieve their wings and Loders offering an Audi TT for the weekend has been a popular added incentive. During training, we felt that Lieutenant Holliehead really impressed. We would like to thank Brian and Loders for their continued support."

Mr Keene said: "Our work with RNAS Yeovilton is something we are proud to be involved with. For a number of years we have offered a prize to the member of the Lynx course who had applied the most effort on behalf of the course and it is our way of rewarding their dedication."
