Honours for leading lights

LEADING lights in Dorset and Somerset have been recognised for their contribution to the community and charity in the New Year’s honours list.

Lyme Regis town councillor Barbara May Austin, Patrick Millard of Salwayash, Diana Hill Bucknall of Blandford Forum and Jacqueline Upton-King of Sturminster Newton have been made MBEs in the list released today, while two officers from RNAS Yeovilton received OBEs in the New Year’s Honours.

Cdr Ric Fox and Cdr Nick Blackman were recognised for their exemplary work in supporting troops on the frontline in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mrs Austin, Mrs Bucknall and Mrs Upton-King, chairman of the SturQuest Community Partnership management team were made MBEs for their contribution to the community.

Mr Millard, boss of charity Tax Help for Older People, was made MBE for his contribution to charity. The service puts pensioners, who cannot afford to pay professional fees, in touch with chartered taxation advisors.

In addition, Christopher Lee, deputy chief constable of Dorset Police, and Christopher Adams of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, both received the Queen’s Police Medal.
