Ms Singleton, who lives in
During her time on Blue Peter she encouraged young thinkers to find more about the world around them by tackling subjects as diverse as rivers and places to politics and people.
Commenting on the Disney’s Wonderful World of Knowledge book she said: "It's a great idea. I read a huge amount when I was growing up and still remember the books I read. In fact I still have most of them.
“Anything that will encourage children to read is wonderful. Once you get into the habit of reading it will last a lifetime. These days I'm greatly drawn to factual books rather than fiction and I have loads of encyclopaedias. They are marvellous for expanding ones knowledge.”
The book is the first in a 24-part series which follows Mickey and his friends as they journey through the world of knowledge.
In parts two to 24 children will also be able to learn about reptiles and amphibians, famous people, famous places, spiders and insects, an atlas of the world, the human body, history from the stone age to the space age, wonders of the sea, the marvels of science, how machines work, the kingdom of mammals, children of the world, the planet earth, plants, great inventions, space, dance, drama and music, transport, the world of art and communications, and much more.
The books will be available each week by popping into a participating newsagent and picking up a copy for just £2.99 with a voucher from the Western Gazette.
And the Western Gazette has also teamed up with our friends MidWest Radio to give away six complete encyclopedia box-sets away for free.
