The frontman revealed that Neil is an inspiration for the whole band except keyboard player Lukas Wooller "because he's more of a fan of German techno".
"Today (Friday) is a big day for me because I've never seen Neil Young play before, he is one of my favourite artists of all time," said Paul.
He continued: "One of my first records that I ever started listening to was After The Gold Rush that me mam had on vinyl, I was like, 'who is this guy with the whiney voice?' and it turns out I love that voice now and I love pretty much every period that he's ever been through, even the weirder ones where he was messing around with computers.
"You just think, 'this guy's a bit of a maverick'."
He added that Neil's eighth album Tonight's The Night is regularly played on the band's tour bus.
"It is probably one of our favourite records, it's got a spontaneous quality to it.
"He just seemed to record it in the middle of the night, whenever he was feeling excited about the songs.
"The fact is a lot of our favourite records were recorded in that spontaneous way where some of the mistakes are left in, you can probably hear it in our new record, it's a bit looser and people like Neil Young are kind of our inspiration behind that way of doing things."
