Gothic premiere for Wahlberg's movie

Mark Wahlberg hit the red carpet in Hollywood for the distinctly dark and Gothic premiere of his new movie, Max Payne.

As Marilyn Manson blared from loudspeakers, the actor posed for photos amidst plumes of artificial fog, which was pumped out to give the event a spooky feel.

Mark explained he had no problem getting in touch with his dark side to play a cop who is hell-bent on revenge after his family are murdered.

He said: "After playing a science teacher, then an accountant recently, I was looking to play something with some real anger and intensity."

But Mark's biggest challenge was distancing himself from real life for the movie, which is based on the computer game of the same name.

"Having to think about something horrific happening to my family [was hard], the character's driven by emotion so I had to go to that place and it's not a fun place to go, you really look forward to the end of the shoot and you don't look back once it's over," he said.

His co-star Chris O'Donnell also attended the premiere.

He said: "I thought it was kind of a cool film, I mean, I wasn't familiar with the video game but for me it was just a couple of scenes working opposite Mark and that was what really attracted me to it.

"He's great, very professional and just ready to go. This had to be an exhausting film for him, he was just working non-stop."

Max Payne, directed by John Moore, also features Beau Bridges, Amaury Nolasco, Ludacris, Mila Kunis and Nelly Furtado.
