1) Gillingham Carnival – Saturday 5th October
The Gillingham carnival takes place on Saturday –with a whole day of family fun. The Carnival Duck Race starts at 10am before the Children’s Procession during the afternoon.

The spectacular evening procession starts at 6pm through the High Street with the Grand Illuminated Procession at 7:15pm.
2) Bournemouth Marathon Festival – Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October
The Bournemouth Marathon Festival takes place this weekend with six different races. Saturday will see the Junior 1.5km and 3km road races, along with the Supersonic 10km race.
Saturday night will see the spectacular Speed of Light 5km Road Race – before the Bournemouth Marathon and Bournemouth Half Marathon on Sunday.
Entry is now closed but thousands are expected to line the streets to cheers on the competitors as they raise money for local charities.
3) Swanage Blues Festival – Friday 4th October – Sunday 6th October.
Thousands of music fans will flock to Swanage for the ever-popular Blues Festival – with over 100 musicians performing at 40 events across 15 venues.
With the promise of music, dancing, food, drink and fun – the event starts on Friday afternoon, running until Sunday night.
4) Pirate-themed Family Fun Day, Poole – Saturday 5th October
Money is being raise for homeless charity Routes to Roots with a Family Fun Day and charity auction at Halifax Bank, Falkland Square.
Organised by staff at Halifax, stalls will open at 10am with a charity auction at 2pm. Prizes up for grabs include two AFC Bournemouth tickets and meals at local restaurants.
5) Octoberfest, Weymouth – Friday 4th October and Saturday 5th October
Beer lovers will be turning out in Weymouth this weekend for the Octoberfest Real Ale and Cider Festival.
Organised by the Campaign for Real Ale, there will be live music on Saturday evening with the event open between 11am and 3pm and then 6pm and 11pm on both days.
The event takes place at Weymouth Pavilion, with tickets £5 for the evening sessions, £3 for the Friday lunch and £4 for the Saturday lunch.
6) The Fox Festival, Cattistock – Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October
The fox will be celebrated this weekend, as a festival of the animal’s culture and place in history comes to life in Dorset.
The world premiere of a specially commissioned oratorio ‘The Fox that Walked On Water’ will be performed at Cattistock Church on Sunday at 4pm – while music, poetry and literature will take centre stage.
Weekend tickets cost £15, Saturday tickets cost £7.50 and Sunday tickets cost £8.50. Children under 12 are admitted free of charge.
7) UKWA Youth and Masters Windsurfing Championships, Portland – Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October
Relive the London 2012 Olympic Games and the National Sailing Academy at Portland this weekend as the UK Windsurfing Association’s Youth and Masters Championship take to the water in Dorset.
Cheer on the top competitors with a series of events taking place.
8) Ralph McTell, Bridport – Sunday 6th October
The 48-year career of Ralph McTell comes to life at The Electric Palace, Bridport on Sunday. The singer-songwriter will perform his beautifully crafted narrative songs – including the Ivor Novello award-winning Streets of London.
Advance tickets cost £19 (plus £1 booking fee) – available from Bridport Tourist information Centre, Bridport Town Hall.
9) Home Composting Course, Upton County Park – Saturday 5th October
Budding Poole gardeners are invited to a free home compost course at Upton Country Park this Saturday.
The course will take place between 10am and 2pm at the Education Centre. A light lunch at the Peacock tearooms is included. Please book your place by telephoning Borough of Poole on 01202 261358.
10) Felting Workshop, Bridport – Saturday 5th October
Learn the ancient techniques of felting and incorporate fibres into chiffon to create beautifully stunning and individual scarves.
