Connie Creighton, co presenter of the Sooty show dies
Connie, who as a young woman ran dance classes in Verwood and Bournemouth, went on to co-present the Sooty Show, initially with Harry Corbett and then with his son Matthew. This partnership came to an end in 1998, one year before this magazine interviewed her for a profile.
She had appeared on TV and in the theatre since the 1960s and did her last show in Croydon in May of last year.
“I have had so many phone calls from showbusiness friends, particularly from the Water Rats,” said her husband, author John Seaton.
In 1992, Connie was recognised for her charitable work and was presented with the British Empire Medal at the then Poole Arts Centre.
She did 20 summer seasons in Southport, and a variety show is to be staged in the fashionable resort in March or April in her memory.
Connie’s funeral is to be held at noon next Monday 26th January at the Church of St Mark’s in Wallisdown. John has requested no flowers, but donations to the Variety Club Children’s Charity should be sent to W. Smith funeral directors at 639, Wimborne Road, Winton.
