Three solar farms proposed for East Dorset
OPPOSITION is mounting to one of three proposals for large solar farms in East Dorset submitted to East Dorset District Council at the end of July and still pending consideration.
Two of them are submitted by the same company, Good Energy, for Mapperton Farm at Mapperton, Almer, where solar panels over 174 acres are proposed, and for land at Homeland Farm in Ringwood Road, Three Legged Cross.
A total of nearly 40 objections have been received to the Mapperton scheme, but with the exception of the Ramblers Association the majority of public responses are in support of that at Three Legged Cross, for which consultation period ended yesterday (Thursday 12th September).
The Three Legged Cross application was submitted in May but an amended application arrived on 29th July, four days after that for Mapperton Farm for which consultation ends on 24th September, and ten days after an application was received from Ortar Solar for a solar farm at Wedgehill Farm, Woodlands, Wimborne.

Consultation on that scheme also ended yesterday, and public objections include the location in an area of outstanding natural beauty and skirted closely by two bridleways.
Dorset Wildlife Trust have sought permission to carry out a biodiversity survey of a site of nature conservation interest forming part of the proposed area so that they can comment more fully on the application, but say the heathland/acid grasslands are listed as UK priority habitats whose preservation, restoration and re-creation should be promoted.
North Dorset District Council's development management committee on Tuesday agreed to visit the site of the Mapperton Farm application, both to view the impact on villages within its boundary and also see the scale of some of the proposals now being submitted for solar farms in the county.
