FIVE people were taken to hospital after a two car smash in Sherborne on Monday night.

At around 10.15pm fire and ambulance services were called to the junction of the B3145 New Road and Gas House Hill.

Police said a grey Volkswagen Tiguan driven by a Sherborne woman was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Corsa, registered to a Dorchester man, which was carrying four people.

A spokesman from Dorset Fire and Rescue said two Sherborne crews were called to release passengers from the Corsa using hydraulic equipment.

Two people were taken by ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital and three were taken to Dorset Couny Hospital in Dorchester as a precaution.

A Dorset Police spokesman said one of the people who had been in the Vauxhall Corsa was reported to have sustained a broken pelvis.

The spokesman said: "Parts of the A352 and the A3030 were closed. They were re-opened at 11.40pm.

"Seven feet of fencing along New Road was also damaged as a result of the crash."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
