A SHERBORNE Girls' pupil joined her entrepreneurial father last Friday to launch the sale of a brand of sausages she inspired.

Scarlett Emmanuel-Jones is only 12 years old but is already appearing alongside her father Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, who owns The Black Farmer food label, to promote a range of chipolatas through her own branch of the brand, dubbed The Black Farmer's Daughter.

The pair appeared at Budgens in Sherborne on Friday to celebrate the launch of the range at the shop.

Mr Emmanuel-Jones, who failed in his bid to become Conservative MP for Chippenham in this year's general election, said he hoped the investment in his daughter's education would nurture her natural aptitude as a young businesswoman.

He said: "I wanted her to go to a really good school. We looked at a number of options and Sherborne was the best by miles. I believe it is better for them that girls should be educated separately. It is traditional and the girls are very looked after. I think that Sherborne Girls is very good in developing individual children's skills. It is costing me a fortune to send her there, so I hope to God it develops the entrepreneurial side of her."

He added he was pleased to see that his daughter had already demonstrated some of his own flair for business.

He said: "I left school without any qualifications and had to really struggle to make it, but I've always had an entrepreneurial edge. I've noticed that Scarlett has the same streak in her. If she's put in any selling situation, she's absolutely brilliant.

"As she saw the brand develop she wanted to be a bigger part of it. She and other young people were always asking why adults treat themselves with nice sausages while children always get given the rubbish to eat. That's was the idea of introducing the range for children, inspired by her. She is the driving force behind the Black Farmer's Daughter brand."
