'We need the law to work for us'
CALLS have been made for a change in the law to give councils better protection when travellers occupy land illegally.
Sherborne's town clerk Trevor Savage said current legislation – which saw the council have to provide the travellers which occupied the Terrace Playing Fields with toilets as part of its duty of care – needs to be reviewed. Mr Savage said he and council staff spent a day clearing six tonnes of rubble and one-and-a-half tonnes of waste, including nappies, before the site was safe to use again.
