Sherborne's next civic leaders have been elected.

On Monday town councillors voted in Dominic Elliott, current deputy mayor, to take over the office of mayor from May.

Current mayor Peter Rhodes proposed Mr Elliott for the position.

Councillor Jon Andrews, portfolio holder for playing fields and recreation areas, was nominated as the next deputy mayor.

Both candidates were proposed with eight votes to two in favour.

Mr Andrews thanked councillors for the opportunity.

He said: "I've yet to research it but I believe it is the first time we have had a mayor and deputy, both born in Sherborne, voted in together for many years."
