FOR the third year running New Forest District Council has agreed not to increase its Council Tax.

Despite a reduction in government grants, the council says it won't need to use any of its reserves. The council will spend approximately £84million this year on continuing to deliver services. Money will also be invested in supporting local businesses and economic growth.

The council says it will also continue to work with partners to promote the New Forest as a visitor destination, reduce the level of crime in the district and improve the health and wellbeing of residents. The council is also introducing a new kerbside glass collection service, after it was the only district authority in Hampshire to successfully secure additional government funding for its scheme.

Customers can carry out transactions on the council's website, report issues via the council's smartphone app 'New Forest InTouch', engage via Facebook and Twitter, or visit one of the information offices across the district, including the new Ringwood Gateway building – a joint services hub shared by the town, district and county council.

Leader of New Forest District Council, Councillor Barry Rickman, said: "As many households in our community face continued rises in the cost of living, we are able to offer some practical help for residents by not increasing our council tax."

Residents can expect to receive their council tax bills from 8th March. 'A guide to your council tax' will no longer accompany the bill. Instead, information can be found on the council's website at www.newforest.gov.uk/ctleaflet (from 8 March).
