Two people aboard a 27 foot motor cruiser were rescued off Poole Harbour after smoke started billowing from the engine room.

Poole RNLI's lifeboats were launched at around 1pm yesterday and a local vessel in the area was put on stand-by.

The rescued pair were taken aboard the inshore lifeboat while the all weather lifeboat towed the motor cruiser into Poole Harbour.

Fire crews found that wiring in the engine room was smoking.

A warning has been issued as the people on board did not have any life jackets, which could have put them in danger if the fire had spread.
