Two people were killed today when their car careered off a Bournemouth road, ploughed into a tree and burst into flames.

The crash happened northbound on the A348 Ringwood Road near Bear Cross roundabout at 4.45am.

A member of the public who saw the vehicle ablaze dialled 999. Police and fire crews raced to the scene but were unable to save the two occupants in the car.

The road was closed between the Clock Garage and Bear Cross roundabouts for forensic examinations to take place and remained shut at 1.30pm this afternoon.
