Two charged over three alleged robberies in Weymouth

Two men have been charged in Weymouth over three alleged robberies in quick succession.

A 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from Weymouth appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court charged with attempted robbery, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both men were remanded in custody.

The alleged incidents took place between 8pm and 10:15pm on Friday March 15 on Westham Road and the Esplanade.

The first incident occurred at 8:15pm on Westham Road where it is alleged an offender threatened a man in his 80s and attempted to steal from him.

The second alleged attack took place at 9:45pm on the Esplanade, when a 19-year-old woman was walking along the Esplanade when it is alleged an offender threatened her and stole her mobile phone.

A third incident at 10:15pm also on the Esplanade, allegedly saw a man in his 40s approached my two men who threatened him and stole his wallet and mobile phone.

Detective Constable Sarah Desmond of Weymouth CID said: "I would like to speak to anyone who may have witnesses anything that can help with the investigation.

"In particular there was a member of the public who was on the Esplanade at the time of the third incident that may have seen something.

"I am also keen to speak to the person whom the victim asked to call the police. I encourage anyone who has been a victim of crime to come forward and tell the police as soon as possible."
