A FARMWORKER who died when he was overcome by fumes at a farm near Blandford has been named. Matthew Pitt who was 29-years-old and from Sturminster Newton, collapsed as he was using sewage treatment equipment at Lowbrook Dairy Farm at Belchalwell on the morning of Wednesday 24th June. He was taken to Dorchester Hospital after an ambulance was called and died later that day.
A 50-year-old Blandford agricultural contractor was also treated at Dorchester Hospital for breathing difficulties but was later discharged.
Dorset Police are assisting the coroner with inquiries. The government's health and safety executive is investigating the incident. An inquest into the death of Mr Pitt was opened and adjourned on Monday.
