Work starts on new Sherborne skate park
WORK is under way to renovate Sherborne skate park after a campaign led by the town's young skaters to transform the shabby facility.
Sherborne Skate Park Group started planning and fundraising in 2010 and raised £185,000 to build a new skate park on the Blackberry Lane site.
The facility is owned by Sherborne Town Council, which is one of many local groups and organisations that helped raise the money.
The town council secured a grant of £40,000 from Olympics funding.

Magna Housing Association gave £5,000 from its community initiative fund.
Money also came from individuals donating or organising a range of activities including sponsored cycle rides.
The park is being built by 1Skateparks and should be completed by the summer.
The facility will use moulded concrete to provide a safe environment for people using it and reduce noise. The skate park will be open plan and landscaped to complement its surroundings.
Magna Housing's community development manager Ken Bodycombe, said: "This has been a really great project for Magna to support.
"It's great to see a project led by young people who have worked hard to achieve a positive outcome that will benefit the whole of the Sherborne community."
