Money also came from individuals donating or organising a range of activities including sponsored cycle rides.
The park is being built by 1Skateparks and should be completed by the summer.
The facility will use moulded concrete to provide a safe environment for people using it and reduce noise. The skate park will be open plan and landscaped to complement its surroundings.
Magna Housing's community development manager Ken Bodycombe, said: "This has been a really great project for Magna to support.
"It's great to see a project led by young people who have worked hard to achieve a positive outcome that will benefit the whole of the Sherborne community."
