Wincanton Town boss wants unbeaten team to target league's top spots
PAUL Down wants his Wincanton Town team to add promotion contenders to their reputation as one of the hardest teams to beat in the Magna Dorset Premier League.
The Toolstation Western League hopefuls have enjoyed a flying start to the campaign, echoing achievements in 2011-12 by not losing any of their opening 11 games.
Hamworthy Rec are the only side to enjoy success against Wincanton, but required extra time and then a penalty shootout to sink their Somerset rivals in the MDPL Cup.
Manager Down said beating their achievements of last season and satisfying the club's thirst for promotion was top priority.

"We have a good start in the league and we are more than happy at the moment," he said. "We have two home games coming up (against Swanage Town and Herstone and Cranborne) and hopefully another two wins can put us in a good position for Christmas.
"We are ticking along nicely and hope to get some players back soon. We have coped well and a couple of reserve players have done really well. The squad is looking strong for the New Year.
"We are a hard to beat side and that is encouraging. We are running along similar lines to last season.
"We have got to convert that into reaching a higher league for next season.
"It will be nice to get into the top three and challenge to win the league and a cup. Promotion is always number one because we are trying very hard to get into the Western League and that is the main aim. For the long term that is the way forward. This season on the playing side we have got to improve on last year."
Dave O'Hare's tenth and 11th goals of the season guided Wincanton to their eighth MDPL win, as they fought past Wareham Rangers.
Down said: "There are a lot of heavy pitches around at the minute and ours is no different. It was more of a battling game.
"The first half was quite even and ended 0-0 but in the second half we stepped it up and got the goals. At the end we could have had three or four and we played really well. It was a really good win on a tricky pitch."
FOUR goals were not enough to earn Ilminster Town more than a point as they drew an eight-goal thriller with St George Easton in Gordano in the Somerset County League Premier Division.
Castle Cary lost to Frome Collegians by the odd goal in five in Division One, whilst Creech North Curry triumphed 2-0 at Combe St Nicholas in Division Two West.
