Wimborne Town were held to a frustrating draw against nine-man Abingdon United at Cuthbury.

Abindgton goalkeeper James Foster rescued a point for his side after Wimborne failed to convert several second-half chances into goals.

"It felt like a defeat, but we got a point from the game" said Wimborne Town manager Steve Cuss.

"I was disappointed with Abingdon's first goal - and to concede a second against ten men is also disappointing."

The visitors took an early lead when Carl Evans won the ball against Wimborne goalkeeper Jason Harvell and scored from close range.

The Magpies equalised when Jon Blake headed home after half an hour.

Wimborne dominated the closing stages and Abingdon made life difficult for themselves when captain Garth Thomas was shown a red card for a professional fouled on George Webb with twenty minutes remaining.

The home side made the most of their numerical advantage when Webb was again brought down, this time inside the penalty area. Micky Hubbard stepped up and scored from the spot to hand Wimborne their first lead of the game.

With eight minutes remaining, the home side failed to clear an Abingdon cross, allowing Evans to grab his second goal of the game.

Steve Halliday was then dismissed for his second yellow card in injury time, reducing the visitors to nine men.

With almost the last kick of the game, Steve Smith missed a glorious chance to secure all three points for Wimborne - when he vollied over the bar from close range.
