Wimborne Town: Mixed fortunes for the Magpies
WIMBORNE Town started 2013 with two tough Southern League Division 1 S&W fixtures which brought mixed fortunes. ã
The New Year's Day local derby with Poole Town at Cuthbury saw the Magpies go down 2-0. That was followed by a trip on Saturday to Swindon Supermarine. The Wiltshire side had not lost at home this term but Wimborne pulled off one of the shocks of the day, winning 2-1.
George Webb opened the scoring in only the second minute. The Magpies could have extended their lead in the second-half but Micky Hubbard had a penalty kick well saved. Wimborne grabbed their second midway through the half, courtesy of Aidan Sainsbury. Swindon pulled one back, but the Magpies held on to complete their first double of the campaign.
This Saturday Wimborne are back at Cuthbury when they host Didcot Town, kick-off 3pm.
