Both sides struggled to create clear cut chances, but Wimborne found the breakthrough from a Micky Hubbard corner.
The Shortwood defence failed to deal with the dangerous ball into the penalty area, with the ball headed straight up in the air inside the six yard box.

The wind took the ball towards the goal line and a flurry of players stabbed at the ball, with it finally crossing the line for the only goal of the game.
Shortwood improved after the break - forcing several good saves from Jason Harvell.
Ross Langworthy missed a golden opportunity to tie the game for Shortwood after taking advantage of a Wimborne defensive mistake. However, Langworthy's headed effort came back off the post.
The Magpies dominated the closing stages and saw out the remainder of the game to seal the three points.
Wimborne are now just four points of the playoff places in The Southern League Division One South and West.
