Wimborne Minster Chamber of Trade to mark 60 years
THIS year marks the 60th Anniversary, not only of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, but also the founding of Wimborne Minster Chamber of Trade & Commerce which held it's first meeting in March 1953.
Later that year, in June, the newly formed Chamber took the opportunity to promote itself by entering a float into the town's Coronation Procession. Decorated with red, white and blue streamers and a large banner announcing 'Wimborne Chamber of Trade – to serve YOU!', the float featured a group of seven - eight year olds dressed in costumes appropriate to the Coronation theme.

As part of its 2013 celebrations the Chamber hopes to reconstruct its 1953 float, together with the children's costumes, but at present they have only this single indistinct photographic detail to refer to. Therefore they are launching an appeal for the public's help to establish the identity and whereabouts of those children riding on the float. Were their families traders in the town? What costumes were they wearing?
The Chamber suspects that clearer photographs exist in forgotten family photo albums hidden away in attics. Perhaps there is even home cine-footage - possibly in colour.
