Western League promotion bid on track for Wincanton Town
WINCANTON Town are still on track to earn promotion to the Toolstation Western League for next season, according to their manager.
The Magna Dorset Premier League outfit have had planning permission granted by South Somerset District Council for floodlights at their Recreation Ground home after an earlier application was rebuffed.
With the vital piece of legislation secured, Down said it was now up to his team to maintain progress on the pitch.
He said: "Everything is in motion. I am not sure how the application is progressing but I think we have agreed the funding in principle. We are waiting on a licence to be issued but we are pretty much on track and I think the chairman is hoping to have the wheels rolling by November.

"The Recreational Trust, who own the ground, have come on board and have been very helpful. The process is a lot smoother this year. We have got to make sure we finish in the top five so there is a bit of pressure there but hopefully it will go well for us on the pitch."
On Saturday Wincanton progressed to the third round of the Somerset Cup with a 5-2 win over Somerset County League side Churchill Club 70.
Andy Mitchell and Ren Turnock scored in the first 15 minutes of the tie to give the Dorset side a dream start, but the Bristol hosts started the second quickly in the second half and levelled the scores with 25 minutes remaining.
Wincanton then dashed hopes of the comeback as Mike Rousell (2) and Andy Norris netted to secure the victory.
Down added: "It was a tricky tie on a heavy pitch. We did well in the first half but they came out of the blocks in the second half and put us under pressure, but we responded well and could have scored more. Once we woke up we got it together and played some good stuff. It was a strange half but we are pleased to get the result."
TINTINHULL lost by the odd goal in five at Weymouth Reserves in the Magna Dorset Premier League.
