WEST Dorset District Council staff have completed their move into new offices in Dorchester.
The new headquarters – South Walks House – forms the first part of major development planned for the Charles Street car park on land owned by the council.

The purpose-built offices are more energy efficient than the former headquarters at Stratton House in High West Street, which has now closed.
South Walks House offers self-service points where customers can have access to computers and online information, a reception area with booths and private interview rooms, more services in one place for convenience and better access for people with disabilities.

The development had sparked opposition from people whose objections included the height and scale of the building, loss of town centre car parking places and its cost of approximately £10million.
But council leader Robert Gould said: “The new offices will save us £200,000 a year and will go on saving us money each and every year.
“Importantly, we can now also offer a better service to the people of West Dorset as we now have a building fit to do business in.
“I am also very pleased that for the first time ever, people in wheelchairs can access the whole building.”
All phone numbers remain the same and the new postal address is West Dorset District Council, South Walks House, South Walks Road, Dorchester, DT1 1UZ.
The Stratton House complex is being sold. It contains the Old Crown Court where the Tolpuddle Martyrs were tried.
A new Dorset County Council public library is due to open at South Walks House in April.
