Wallingford RFC 20-25 Wimborne RFC: All Blacks closer to Twickenham with second trophy

Tom Moysey inspired Wimborne RFC to their second trophy of the season as they edged past Wallingford in the Southern Counties Intermediate Cup.

The All Blacks are now just two wins away from a spot at Twickenham after securing a hard-fought 25-20 win over the Oxfordshire side.

Wimborne team manager Mark Sturney was quick to praise his side for their performance, despite overcoming a difficult pitch in Wallingford.

"The conditions have been very heavy and at times we have found it difficult to get rhythm to our game" said Sturney.

The home side got off to the better start, and built an early six-point lead with two successful penalty kicks.

The impressive Moysey single-handedly found a way back into the game for Wimborne. After slotting home a penalty, the fly half chipped the ball over the Wallingford defence before using his pace to touch the ball down in the corner for the opening try.

However, the All Blacks couldn't hold onto the lead before the break. Wallingford caught Wimborne off guard with a quick penalty and powered over the line to lead 13-8 at half time.

Wimborne dominated the start of the second period and were rewarded when Paul Watson scored a try after a good line break by Ben Hunt.

Moysey added two extra points with a simple conversion as the All Blacks grew in confidence.

The Dorset side increased their lead when Will Tarbard took advantage of a great feed from Jason Llewellyn for his side's third try - which was again converted by Moysey.

The fly half extended Wimborne's lead with a successful penalty kick, but Wallingford grabbed a lifeline with a break-away try which cut the deficit to five points.

Wimborne hung on for the win which sets up a tough game in St Austell, Cornwall later this month in the South West Intermediate Final.

The All Blacks' travelling support will once again be key as Wimborne continue their quest for a dream game at Twickenham.

"It was great to see so many people on the sidelines chanting and cheering us on" added Sturney.

"Our supporters outnumbered the home supporters and certainly gave a boost to the team."
