In preparation for the exam, students had to study Poole's regeneration plans, looking at issues such as development, transport and the construction of the Twin Sails Bridge. They have also been learning about why Poole needs a second harbour crossing and the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the project.
Jim Bright, strategic director, Borough of Poole said: "The Twin Sails Bridge is putting Poole firmly on the map and we're delighted that this national exam gave students a great opportunity to learn about our town's ambitious regeneration plans in close detail. We've been contacted by many students and schools throughout the UK wanting to find out more about the Twin Sails Bridge and some have even chosen to visit Poole to see the project for themselves."
The Twin Sails Bridge will open to traffic on Monday 27 February, providing an additional road link for the Poole Town and Hamworthy communities, and unlocking one of the largest regeneration sites in the South West.
To celebrate the completion of this 20-month construction project a community weekend will be held on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February on the Twin Sails Bridge before it opens to road traffic. An official opening celebration will be held on Friday 9th March.
