Traffic disruption expected as hundreds of bikers set to descend on Weymouth

Residents in Weymouth are being warned of disruption on the roads this weekend when a motorcycle rally makes its way through the town.

Up to 250 Harley Davidson motorcycles are expected to descend on Weymouth on Saturday when the New Forest branch of the Harley Owners' Group travel to the Dorset town.

The convoy is expected to begin at 11.45am at Littlemoor Road, before travelling into the town centre and along the Esplanade - before finishing at the Sea View Holiday Park at approximately 1pm.

Inspector John Mallace, of the Dorset Police Traffic Unit said: "Dorset Police motorcyclists will escort this rally and we will aim to keep the convoy as compact as possible to minimise disruption to other road users.

"As part of this operation, roundabouts and junctions along the route will be briefly closed to other vehicles while the convoy passes through them.

"This will ensure the convoy can travel through as swiftly as possible to reduce the disruption to other road users as much as possible.

"We will try to minimise traffic delays, but some disruption will inevitably occur. I would encourage members of the public to avoid the route where possible between 11.45am and 1pm on Saturday September 29 2012."
