FOURTEEN-year-old Will Howland has undertaken a gruelling 150-mile ride on horseback from Lymington in the New Forest to Wellington, Somerset in a bid to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign in memory of his mother Helen, who died from the disease five years ago, as well as mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and her love of horses.

Last week's Dorset leg of the trip proved somewhat challenging when Will encountered gale force winds on top of Bulbarrow Hill and his horse picked up a flint in his foot meaning that a ride that should have taken just two hours in fact took four. Luckily, Will was able to stay with Patsy and Stan Harris at Marsh Farm, Ibberton and was able to recover before heading off through the Blackmore Vale.

Will, who is moving with his family to Somerset in September, has so far raised £1500. Although accompanied by an adult on the ride, Will planned and prepared everything himself.

Will said: "My ambition is to do a horse trek to fundraise every year and to make a difference in curing breast cancer."
