Thousands of people enjoyed a day out at Berkeley Show in the grounds of Gloucestershire's historic Berkeley Castle, with sunshine bringing crowds of visitors to the popular bank holiday event.

A stream of cars headed for the meadow below the castle as soon as the gates opened.

Judges were in action casting their eyes over horses, cattle and sheep brought to the showground from across the West Country and beyond.

Visitors watched horses and ponies being put through their paces in showing, carriage driving, gymkhana and show jumping classes, while the clocks were turned back with a parade of the kind of heavy horses that used to be relied on by farmers and tradesmen.

Vintage tractors and other agricultural items were also on view, as well as rare breeds of animals.
