St Martin’s Church, West Moors opens new doors
FOLLOWING hard on the heels of its 110th anniversary earlier this year St Martin’s United Reformed Church in the heart of West Moors has undergone a transformation during the summer and created a new entrance directly onto the main road through the village.
At 3pm on Sunday 20th October the new entrance will be officially dedicated and then opened by Mrs Muriel Cooper, the longest serving member and Elder the church, which describes itself as ‘The little church with the big heart’.
The event, to which all local residents are invited, will feature solos from Mrs Naomi Lomax (soprano) and items by members of the Verwood Concert Brass band. The Rev Margaret Tilley will officiate.
Commenting on the changes the church secretary Mrs Muriel Moore said: “St Martin’s is a warm and welcoming church. By installing glass doors and a clear view foyer facing Station Road, with a new access from the Station Road pavement we have opened up the church to the whole community, who can now see in. The important wooden cross, made from the timbers of the original pews that were replaced by comfortable chairs some years ago, has been relocated as a focal feature, in front of a simple but beautiful new hanging, at the opposite end of the church and can now be seen from outside.”
