Spitfires over the New Forest
FOR their last open day and coffee morning of the year the Friends of the New Forest Airfields will feature the story of Hampshire’s most famous aeroplane. Conceived, designed, built and flown in Hampshire the Supermarine Spitfire is the one plane that most people have heard of. The Friends will tell the Spitfire’s local story (and that of its naval version the Seafire); where they were based in and around the New Forest, why they were there, what they did and the units who flew them.
The open day and exhibition will be open on Sunday 20th October between 10am and 4pm at the New Forest Airfields’ Education Centre in Merryfield Park, Bransgore BH23 8AU. Thanks to the generosity of a local aircraft restorer, a few genuine Spitfire artifacts are expected to be present on the day to augment the displays, photographs, models and books in the centre. The Friends of the New Forest Airfields can be contacted on 01425 674516, or email via email@example.com.
