UPDATE: Search for missing skipper who set sail from Poole called off
A widespread search for a missing skipper who set sail from Poole yesterday has been called off.
The search began at around 5.15pm yesterday after the vessel, Brigand, was found by a member of the public with its engine still running and sails up near Brighstone, miles away on the Isle of Wight.
The Maritime Coastguard Agency said that the air, land and sea search had been called off at around 4pm this afternoon.
The male skipper is believed to have left Poole, yesterday morning to sail to Hayling Island just off the South Coast. It is not clear what happened to him during the trip.
