Sherborne radio station Abbey 104 FM launched
ABBEY 104, the new name for Sherborne's community radio station celebrated its first FM broadcast on Saturday.
The go-ahead to turn on the transmitter came from Ofcom at 4pm on Thursday and the station now broadcasts to within a 12 to 15 mile radius of the town.

Dan Gruner, the station's technician, had reports from friends that they were receiving the station loud and clear in West Bay when it went live at 8am on Saturday morning.
The idea for a community station for Sherborne came in the harsh winter of 2010 when the town found itself in a news blackspot for weather and travel reports. Up until Saturday listeners could only tune in on-line.

The station has 25 volunteer presenters, a number which grows all the time and is always keen to hear from people with IT skills who can offer technical support.
Presenters range from Cat Paterson who presents the Sunday morning lifestyle show Jam and Toast and 16-year-old Gryphon School pupil Ryan Tuffin whose Banter Show airs for two hours on Friday evening.
Ryan, who is the youngest member of the team, has been involved with the station for more than two years and assists with the enrichment course which enables other students to create their own programme.
Ryan was invited to officially launch the station at a reception generously provided by the Eastbury Hotel on Saturday which was attended by Oliver Letwin, the deputy mayors of Sherborne and Yeovil and representatives of the Lions and Rotary Clubs.
