West Dorset councillors have approved 286 new homes on land at Barton Farm, Sherborne. Hundreds of Sherborne residents gathered at the Digby Hall earlier to hear if the controversial housing development would be granted planning permission. A meeting lasting three hours heard public objections to the plans. Sherborne Town Council's plans committee chairman Katherine Pike has campaigned for months against the development. The plans also include a 60-bed care home, employment land and a flood-defence scheme. For a full report and reaction to the decision see next week's Western Gazette.
