Sherborne girls join Warrior Scholarship Programme
THREE Upper Sixth students from Sherborne Girls have been selected to join the Warrior Accelerated Scholarship Programme in South Africa.
Olivia Turner, India Penny and Emily Williams were successful in their application to join students from five other independent schools to travel to Northern Province in South Africa in the October half term. The eight day and night challenging adventure programme will provide them with a combination of leadership training and adventure (sky diving, abseiling, scuba diving, night navigation in the bush), as well as giving the girls the opportunity to work with young children at a day centre and learn more about conservation and wildlife issues by interacting with rhinos, elephants and a host of other animals. There are also workshops so that theory, practice and understanding can all be explored.
Amanda Mackintosh, External Relations & Community Coordinator at the school, explains: "The girls will be working 15 hours a day on projects which aim to help overcome their fears, push them to their limits and improve their self-understanding. Physically and mentally, it is a strenuous programme and not for the faint-hearted, but we know from experience that it is often the catalyst for unleashing potential in those who participate".
The school provides each candidate with a £300 scholarship, and is now in its fifth year of supporting this highly successful project.
