Louisa Podvoiskis, manager of Orvis in the town, ran the competition for the second year running for Sherborne Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

She said: “It’s a lovely thing to do and the children really enjoyed it. It’s a great way of encouraging everybody into the town and promoting local shops and businesses.”

As well as receiving a prize, the children were announced as winners by Olympic gold medallist Peter Wilson at the Christmas lights event.

Cordelia McFarlane, chairman of the chamber, said: “The chamber has organised a competition for children for many years as part of our festive event.

“Louisa volunteered to organise it for the first time last year and it has been such a success that other Orvis stores have been shown the Sherborne model to copy. We are delighted with the success of the competition and hope that she will offer to do it again next year as well.”
