SHERBORNE Town manager Jamie Manley praised his squad's strength in depth as they beat Keynsham Town 2-1 in the FA Vase.

The Dorset side were missing a number of key players for the match with their Toolstation Western League First Division rivals, but first-half goals from Dean Ritchie and Tim Trevett either side of a Keynsham equaliser were enough to ensure their progress in the competition.

Manley admitted that playing on Keynsham's third generation artificial pitch was a new challenge for the team but was delighted to see his side's good form continue.

He said: "We had five lads out from the week before so we had to bring a few lads up from the reserves but to be fair we played really well and it shows the strength in depth we have got.

"We started sharply even though we had to get used to the pitch because we had never played on it before.

"We deserved to win the game but they had chances of their own as well. I am pleased that we made it through and we have got Bridport in the next round. It would be nice to play some league games now because we have only played two but you cannot have it all."

Sherborne's participation in cup competition continues on Saturday when they travel to north Somerset outfit Clevedon Town in the FA Cup, with supporters able again to travel on a bus laid on by the club. Clevedon lie two tiers above Sherborne in the Evostik League Southern.

"We are under no pressure," Manley said. "We will just go there and give it our best shot. I know what the lads are capable of and if we play well then we can always get a result."
