Sherborne RFC were knocked off the top of Southern Counties South by a revived Wimborne RFC.

The Minstermen came away with a 23-10 win at Gainsborough Park thanks to 13 points from Tom Moysey.

The Wimborne fly-half was also instrumental in his side's opening try as his clever chip was collected by Gavin Maltman - who scored under the posts.

Moysey gave the visitors some breathing space when he slotted home a penalty kick after Will Tarbard was injured in an illegal tackle.

Two yellow cards reduced Sherborne to 13 men, but Wimborre couldn't make the most of their numerical advantage.

Sherborne finally got on the board with a penalty kick after half time. However, Moysey restored Wimborne's ten-point advantage with another flawless penalty.

Moysey added another penalty before a good move set up Jamie Tryska to seal the win with five minutes remaining.

Sherborne scored a break-away try late on to restore some pride, but ran out of time to launch a comeback.

Wimborne Head Coach Jim Kelly said: "That was a great team performance - we played with intensity and tempo.

"It was hard losing our winning run up at Frome but we have regrouped and got back to winning ways."

Devizes replace Sherborne on top of Southern Counties South, while Wimborne take up fourth place in the league table. The Minstermen have several games in hand over their rivals due to their impressive cup run.

Wimborne travel to Wallingford next week in the Southern Counties Intermediate Cup Final - hoping to build on their Dorset and Wiltshire Cup victory.
