Shaftesbury Sixth Form open evening
SHAFTESBURY and Sturminster Sixth Form have launched their prospectus for 2012-13 and are holding open evenings on Tuesday 10th January at Shaftesbury from 6-8pm and on Thursday 19th January from 7-9pm at Sturminster.
At the Shaftesbury Open Evening there will also be the chance to hear a presentation from Student Finance on the latest changes to the costs of going to university and to speak to representatives from Yeovil College about apprenticeships and vocational courses.
This year's A-level results were the best ever with 22% of results at grades A or A*, placing Shaftesbury and Sturminster among the top state schools in the county and in the top 25% nationally for A-level Value Added (Source: ALPS). This success enabled students to access some of the most prestigious universities in the country, including two in the QS Rankings World Top 10 (Medicine at University College London and Chemical Engineering at Imperial College). The prestigious International Schools award reflects the influence of boarding students from Europe, Africa and Asia at Shaftesbury and the close links both schools have with Rwanda through local charity Msaada.
The collaboration between the two schools has been running for 15 years and goes from strength to strength. Students can access a wide range of courses across both schools to suit all learning styles. The 2012 prospectus offers a full range of traditional A-level courses, alongside the opportunity to study subjects such as Hospitality, IT, Science, Sport and Health and Social Care in BTEC and other Level 3 courses which are respected both by employers and universities. The one year 'Level 2 Pathway' gives students who have not yet achieved 5 GCSEs at A*-C the chance to gain qualifications which will allow them to progress to Level 3 courses, Colleges or Employment.

Beyond the classroom the Sixth Form focuses on preparing students for their next step in life through activities ranging from specialised groups to support Oxbridge candidates to networking sessions with local employers. Alongside this there is a vibrant extra-curricular programme of sports, arts, music and charity fundraising.
