Search is on to find ten Greatest British Walks
A nationwide search is being launched today by the National Trust to find the country’s ten Greatest British Walks.
Walkers from around the country are being encouraged to upload information about their favourite walk to the Great British Walk website at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/greatbritishwalk.
By submitting details of their favourite walk, they will get the chance to win a stay in a National Trust holiday cottage and have their walk scrutinised by a panel of judges as they decide the ten best walks.
Walkers will need to describe their walk, and what makes it so special, and plot on to a digital OS map so that other walkers can follow the same special route.

Once submitted the walk will appear in an online map and users will be able to share the walks that they have nominated via social networking sites using the hashtag #GBwalk. The competition will run until Sunday, November 4.
“We all know that the counties of Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire are famed not only for their outstanding natural beauty, but also for the wealth of historical features that you can come across on a walk. Now is the chance for local people to highlight their top places to walk, and remind everyone of just how much we have to offer,” said John Lamming, Ranger at Brownsea Island in Dorset.
The winning walks will be illustrated showing the route and places of interest along the way; they will be published online next year.
