Richard Hinds could extend his Yeovil Town contract beyond a year at Christmas, it is understood.

The Glovers’ defender has committed himself to the Huish Park outfit for 12 months after impressing during a short-term deal last season.

REVISED DEAL: Yeovil Town’s Richard Hinds clears against Wycombe Wanderers. The defender could extend his current year-long deal at Christmas.

Manager Gary Johnson initially suggested Hinds would be offered two years but has revealed that the centre half’s age, his northern roots and a young family meant that a single year deal was believed to be best.

However, the situation will be re-assessed over the festive period when the former Sheffield Wednesday man enters potentially the final six months of his time with Yeovil.

Johnson said: “People that you already know can do the job and will be ready for the rigours of League One – and more, let’s hope – you can give two years because they have been around for a bit longer.

“In Richard’s case and maybe other people’s cases if you sign them once people reach 30-odd you have to keep assessing their fitness and ambition.

“I don’t doubt Richard for one moment but it is always better to keep them hungry. He was happy with that and with his family up north he is probably not going to settle in Yeovil for the next 20 years.

“It suited everybody that we gave him another year of League One football, which is good for his CV and his quality of life.

“It worked well for him last year and I am sure it will work well for him this year.”
