Review of the year: 2012 in Dorset - part two

In part two of This Is Dorset's review of 2012, we look back at the year between April and June.

Spring saw the first big celebrations of the year as The Queen visited Sherborne, before the whole of Dorset celebrated the Diamond Jubilee.

In April, Cheesemakers from The Blackmore Vale showed off their produce in Shaftesbury as locals carried the heavy cheeses up Gold Hill in a race.

This would be a warm-up for a competition that would run along the Shaftesbury Food Festival in the summer, and proved extremely popular.

In May there was shock as aristocrat Charles Harbord was found dead from a gunshot wound at his home near Gillingham.

The close friend of Prince Harry was understood to be suffering from financial concerns and depression.

Andrew Jamieson, an artist who presented his work to the Dalai Lama - told The Blackmore Vale Magazine that his inspiration dated back to his days as a Dorset schoolboy.

Mr Jamieson attended Gillingham School, which inspired his passion for heraldic art.

Dorset celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in style. Street parties took place across the county as communities ranging from Swanage, Bournemouth, Spetisbury and Wimborne took to the streets.

Dorset lit more Diamond Jubilee beacons than any other county to bring celebrations to a close in what was an unforgettable weekend.
