Rate your local hospital emergency department
PATIENTS at The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals - and across the country - are to be asked whether they would recommend the hospitals to their families and friends.
From 1st April patients over the age of 16 who are discharged from the Emergency Department or who have had an overnight stay in the hospital will be asked: ‘How likely are you to recommend our Ward / A&E department to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?’

By rating their experience on a scale from “extremely likely” to “extremely unlikely”, hospitals and wards will be given a score from -100 to 100. Scores will be available for specific services as well as an overall hospital score.
Ellen Bull, RBCH Deputy director of nursing and midwifery, said: “Putting patients first is a key priority for the Trust and we are committed to improving the patient experience. We have been asking the friends and family question for some time already and the Friends and Family Test will give us further insight into how patients view our services and how we can continue to improve.”

Sue Mellor, patient engagement and voluntary services manager, said: “Follow-up questions will give meaning to the response and enable us to identify areas of good practice as well as those which need to be improved.”
Results will be published nationally and will be displayed within wards and in the Emergency Department at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, as well as on the Trust’s website www.rbch.nhs.uk
The Friends and Family Test will be extended to maternity and outpatients services from October and a future roll out to other departments will follow.
