Seven heartbreaking months after three fishermen died at sea in Dorset, their families have thanked those who have supported them.

The Weymouth-based Purbeck Isle fishing boat left the harbour on May 17. After a three-day search for David McFarlane and crew Jack Craig and Robert Prowse, the body of Mr McFarlane, 35, and the wreck of the vessel were found.

The body of Mr Craig, 21, was discovered off the Devon coast in August, but Robert Prowse, 20, remains missing.

The tragedy hit the community in the town and neighbouring Portland hard and £56,000 has been donated to the Purbeck Isle Memorial Fund.

Peter Prowse, Mr Prowse’s father, said: “I’d like to thank anyone that has donated to the fund and thank the committee for all they have done.”

Colin and Grace McFarlane, the parents of David McFarlane, said they had a big family Christmas together, eating dinner under David’s portrait and raising a glass of his favourite tipple.

Mr McFarlane said: “Especially at this time we are feeling David’s loss greatly. We feel as though there’s a huge gap we cannot fill.”

He added: “We would like to thank everyone who has offered our family help or support in any way during this difficult time.
