Protesters march on East Dorset District Council offices in Furzehill
MORE than 200 people gathered to march solemnly behind the coffin of East Dorset democracy to the district council's headquarters at Furzehill yesterday in protest at the district's proposed core strategy identifying land for more than 1000 new houses in the district.
The protest was led by parishioners of West Parley, who are opposing a proposal for 500 homes in their village, and swelled by those from Wimborne and Colehill in protest against another 1300 either side of the Cranborne road and off Leigh Road.

“I joined the march from the Stocks Inn and immediately admired the attitude of feisty protesters on a bitterly cold night. They were well organised, highly disciplined, and careful to follow the polite instructions of the Police, who were also marvellous. This time, unlike the last, two EDDC Councillors came out onto the Council Offices steps to speak briefly to the protesters. What was certain though was the West Parley, Colehill, and other supporter's vocal insistence on 'fair play' that everyone thought had been absent in the process from the outset. The people expressed their disgust at EDDC's autocratic rule on the Core Strategy. It was a CeauÈescu balcony moment in Furzehill for the two councillors.”
