Poole lights up for Brilliance with illuminated art works
SEE Poole in a new light, as Brilliance, Poole’s showcase of artists takes over familiar sights with a weekend of free fabulous illuminated art works on 20-23 March.
Based around Poole Quay, the lower High Street and parts of the Old Town, local landmark buildings will be the venue for specially commissioned art works to conjure new atmospheres in well know locations.
From 6.30-8.30pm a series of 24 light based installations will give people a chance to see innovative, illuminated artworks by local artists in pub gardens, shop windows and public spaces along the Quay. Using a special map, visitors will take a journey of discovery as ice sculpture, mosaic flowers and a performing light lady cast a whole new glow on local places. Artworks include displays of illuminated tropical fruit and flowers in the Poole Quay palm trees and the chance to take part in shadow plays. Visitors will be able to make a light photo-painting, make discoveries with UV light in unusual places or just enjoy the artworks on show.
Councillor Judy Butt, portfolio holder said: “What is most exciting is that many of the artworks have been created by community groups working with local artists. It’s been a wonderful way of bringing the community together and seeing so many people get involved using their multi-skilled creative talents to show Poole off in such extraordinary ways.”
