Chris Holder powered his way into the all-time top ten Poole Pirates scorers as the Dorset side put Monday's Elite League Grand Final disappointment behind them.

The Pirates took a 12-point lead in the first leg of the Knock-out Cup semi-final against the Peterborough Panthers thanks to a maximum points haul from Holder - who needed just three points to overtake Malcolm Simmons' tally of 2,148 points.

Poole team manager Neil Middleditch said: "I think last night Chris showed exactly why the club have been so successful during his years with the club.

"After Monday's disappointment at missing out on the title against Swindon, he refused to let his head drop and has yet again proved to be the rock and the example for the rest of the team.

"We ail know that we have a difficult second leg at Peterborough but I am happy with the 12-point advantage. I would certainly have been happy with that lead at the start of the first leg and as reigning holders I hope we can defend the lead to make the final."

Krzysztof Kasprzak was also in inspired form, as the Pole racked up 17 points. The Panthers kept the scores close for much of the meeting, but the power of the Pirates enabled them to pull away in the final few heats, to take a healthy lead back to Wimborne Road tomorrow night.
