POLICE are warning people to increase security following a spate of shed break-ins across north Dorset.

Inspector Shawn Whitley of Dorset Police said thefts from sheds and garages spiked in September with 20 incidents - up from six in September 2011.

A further seven break-ins have occurred so far this month.

He said: "I strongly urge people to install alarms and security lighting on sheds and other outbuildings.

He also wants to hear from anyone who has seen anything suspicious or been offered items.
